Description

At 34, Mikami Riko feels increasingly lonely in her sexless marriage. Her husband, Kiyoshi, shows no interest in their intimate life, leaving her frustrated and distressed. Gotou Toshiaki shares a similar unhappiness: although he married a beautiful woman ten years his junior, he has grown weary of a life without sex or affection. A class reunion brings Riko and Toshiaki together again, years after they dated as students. As they open up about their troubled marriages, their shared dissatisfaction draws them closer, and their renewed connection eventually becomes a physical affair. Both know they are doing something wrong, yet neither brings the relationship to an end. In Sexless: The Reason The Plain Wife Resorted To An Affair, Riko’s disappointment in her husband becomes intertwined with a growing desire for motherhood. Kiyoshi has no intention of having children, but she can no longer dismiss her wish for a child of her own. As the affair continues, she begins to contemplate a possibility that could take her betrayal even further: if her husband is unwilling, perhaps she could fulfill that longing with someone else.
