Description

In The Only Doe, you take control of Madd, a girl whose dream of becoming an engineer is threatened by an unsafe home life. Following her mother’s recent death, she lives with her stepbrother and stepfather, who invade her personal space and pressure her into troubling situations. With little security or privacy at home, Madd decides that leaving is her best chance to pursue the future she wants. Escaping, however, means confronting a difficult financial reality: she cannot afford both her education and a safe place to live. To make her plans possible, Madd disguises herself as a boy so she can stay in a boys-only dorm. It is a practical solution born of limited options, but one that requires her to conceal her identity as she works toward her ambitions. The story begins before Madd leaves home, putting you in her shoes as she plans her escape from her stepfamily. Her pursuit of independence, a safer environment, and an engineering education forms the heart of a story about trying to build a future under difficult circumstances.
