Description

In The Alchemist’s Debt, a brilliant chemist from the modern world tests a failed “serum of life” on himself—and awakens in the body of a deadbeat, alcoholic village alchemist. His introduction to this unfamiliar life is hardly welcoming: his angry new wife and the local blacksmith are arguing over what they believe to be his corpse. The comforts of a modern laboratory are gone, replaced by a filthy shack and a life of absolute poverty. There are no research grants to fall back on, only enormous debts owed to the village chief and neighbors who regard him with contempt. Whatever brilliance he brought from his former life, he now carries the reputation and burdens of the man whose body he inhabits. Your task is to survive, settle those debts, and show the village that you are more than the failure they expect. Caught between a scientist’s knowledge and an alchemist’s ruined standing, you must make a fresh start in circumstances that offer little comfort and even less goodwill.
