Description

Mother’s Rules takes place in Placeholder, a dystopian city where every resident must carry a Master Brain chip implanted in their brain. These devices promise greater success and achievement, but demand absolute obedience in return: their supposedly perfect commands leave no room for personal freedom. Society sorts its citizens into star-based ranks, from half-star outcasts and corrupt troublemakers such as Wang, an NTR-style antagonist, to ordinary, compliant residents rated as high as four stars. Bai, the protagonist, is a pure, high-achieving student and student council president with a solid three-star standing. Above this rigid hierarchy stand the city’s mysterious founders, rumored—but never confirmed—to hold an exceptional five-star rank. Their supposed members include Master Brian’s parents: his father, the brilliant scientist who invented the chips, and his mother, Liu Xu, the alluring female lead and acting principal who previously served as vice principal. When his father and the entire laboratory team abruptly disappear, production of new chips comes to a halt. With existing implants destined to fail over time, the disappearance threatens not just one family, but the survival of the city’s entire social order. Master Brian and Liu Xu must venture into a dangerous virtual world connected to the laboratory to uncover the truth and find his father before time runs out. Their search pits them against corruption within, unknown dangers beyond, and the increasingly invasive influence of the chips themselves. In a society built on unquestioning compliance, even their own thoughts and desires become part of the struggle for control.
