Independent Horizons follows Tom, a 20-year-old man trying to build a future of his own while uncovering the past he never knew. Orphaned as an infant, he was adopted at just three months old by Mr. and Mrs. Cruz, a middle-class couple who welcomed him into their home. Shortly after the adoption became official, Mrs. Cruz took a pregnancy test and discovered she was expecting. Overjoyed, the couple saw Tom as their lucky child. Their daughter, Pauline, became his childhood companion, and although Tom shared no blood ties with the family, he grew up with the love and belonging of a complete household.
