Description

Highschool-Girl Wider Willen follows a German boy whose parents’ divorce sends him far from home to live with his mother in Maplewood, a quiet American town. Starting over in another country is difficult enough, but his mother imposes a harsh condition: he must attend high school as a girl. With makeup, dresses, and an identity he never chose, he faces a new life shaped by a secret he cannot afford to reveal. School becomes a social minefield of cliques, crushes, and carefully guarded truths. Every interaction carries the risk of exposure, while the pressure to fit in collides with his shame and longing to belong. Beneath the effort to maintain appearances lies an even more unsettling fear: that the role forced upon him might begin to change how he sees himself. Set against Maplewood’s seemingly peaceful backdrop, the story explores the strain of an imposed identity and the uncertainty of finding a place among others while hiding who you are. Here, a friendly smile offers no guarantee of safety, and one wrong step could bring his carefully maintained disguise crashing down.
