That changes when a guard pushes a new cellmate through the door with the words “as agreed.” Suddenly, the quiet routine you hoped to maintain has about a week left. Your new cellmate, Sky, is blond and freckled, speaks one word at a time, and sketches in a notebook he otherwise keeps closed. His arrival draws the attention of Brody, who runs the block and wants Sky transferred to his tier. A guard offers a way to make the paperwork disappear—but only once, and for sixty cigarettes you don’t have. Between Sky’s guarded manner, Brody’s influence, and a price you cannot pay, keeping your head down is no longer a simple proposition.
