Alternate Existence follows a 22-year-old protagonist with no childhood memories of his parents and no knowledge of who they are or where they might be. For a time, he lived with an older woman, but she eventually placed him in foster care. Years of moving between families ended when an unspecified incident drove him to leave and never look back. Then a man offered him a chance to escape his bleak existence—but the promise of a better life left him wondering what the catch might be. This story-driven, linear game centers on the protagonist’s journey, with choices that primarily shape his relationships with female characters. His uncertain past and the doubts surrounding this new opportunity frame a narrative about discovering whether the life he has been offered is truly a change for the better. The current version includes two voyeuristic sex scenes in Episode 1, each involving an important female character. One depicts a boyfriend and girlfriend having sex; the other is a male–female–female threesome, though the important female character’s involvement is exclusively lesbian. Both scenes can be skipped, but their occurrence cannot be prevented through choices. Voyeurism is intended to remain a very minor theme in future episodes, with any such scenes always skippable. Version 1.4.0 introduces a complete code overhaul, making saves from v1.3.0 incompatible. Players moving from v1.3.0 to v1.4.0 or later must start a new game.
