Alternate Existence follows a 22-year-old protagonist with no childhood memories of his parents and no idea who they are or where they might be. His early years were spent with an older woman, but that home proved temporary: she placed him in foster care, where he was shuffled from one family to another. That unhappy cycle ended after an incident prompted him to leave and never look back. When a mysterious man later offers him a route out of his bleak existence, a better life suddenly seems possible—but he cannot shake the question of what the catch might be. Built around a story-driven, linear narrative, Alternate Existence features choices that primarily shape the main character’s relationships with the female cast. The central journey explores an uncertain opportunity for a fresh start, with the promise of something better shadowed by doubts about the offer. The current version includes two voyeuristic sex scenes in Episode 1 involving two important female characters. One depicts sex between a boyfriend and girlfriend; the other is a male–female–female threesome, although the important female character’s involvement is exclusively with the other woman. Both scenes can be skipped, but the underlying events cannot be prevented through player choices. Voyeurism is intended to remain a very minor theme in later episodes, and any such scenes will always be skippable. Version 1.4.0 introduces a complete code overhaul, making saves from version 1.3.0 incompatible. Players moving to version 1.4.0 or later must begin a new game.
