The Rain Monster
Description
The Rain Monster follows a boy who swears revenge after saying farewell to the father he loved so deeply. Meeting a new family brings another chapter to his life, but his everyday world proves all too easy to shatter. Faced with a cruel fate, he can do little but obey, as loss and painful memories shape the story of the household around him. Aoi Shindo is a strong-willed high school student who spends her afternoons helping at her mother’s izakaya. An excellent athlete who takes after her mother in appearance, she adores the protagonist and treats him as a younger brother. Beneath her spirited nature, however, she carries a painful past of her own. Her mother, Nagisa Shindo, is a beautiful widow who lost her beloved husband in “a certain incident.” Many of the izakaya’s regulars come primarily for her striking looks, ample bust, and curvaceous figure. Drunken patrons often subject her to sexual harassment, which she has become adept at sidestepping and deflecting. Yet she finds it harder to stand firm with Aoi, whose help at the shop leaves her reluctant to put her foot down. Like her daughter, Nagisa lives with the weight of a painful past.
