Possible solutions to the Renpy OpenGL issue & Unity Stuttering with the latest Nvidia drivers
Description
If you’re experiencing Ren’Py OpenGL issues or Unity stuttering with Nvidia drivers released after version 581.80, several potential fixes have shown positive results. After I reported the issue to Nvidia and worked through the tests they requested, we found that repeatedly using CTRL could create a backlog. The steps below helped during testing, while additional settings changes also showed promise. For the Ren’Py issue, three separate approaches produced good results: waiting 10–30 minutes for the system to clear the backlog; pressing Windows Key + CTRL + Shift + B to reset the GPU driver, then restarting the system; or signing out of Windows and signing back in. These offer several options to try when the issue occurs. Two settings configurations also looked promising: setting Max Frame Rate to 60 together with Low Latency Mode set to On, or disabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling. To try the latter, open Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select Default Graphics Settings > Advanced Graphics Settings, and turn off Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling. Restart the system afterward to apply the change. For Unity stuttering, four alternative changes were found to work during testing: turning V-Sync Off either in-game or through the Nvidia Control Panel, setting V-Sync to Fast, disabling G-Sync, or enabling DLSS in-game. These are separate options rather than a single configuration, providing several possible ways to address stuttering with the affected drivers.
