Description

In My Wife Mariko, Matsuda Wataru is a successful lawyer at a top-tier firm—a man who seems to have won at life. Behind that polished image, however, lies the feeling that his achievements came at too high a price. He sacrificed much on the road to success, including his youth, and still carries the regret of never confessing his feelings to his high school crush. Then an unexpected opportunity appears among the candidates for the omiai, the formal matchmaking meetings his parents have long urged him to attend. There, Wataru finds Mariko: the cheerful, sweet, beautiful girl once adored as his school’s idol. Back then, she seemed so far beyond his reach that he never dared approach her. He doubts a confession would have changed anything, yet the unanswered question of what might have been has stayed with him ever since. Now, meeting her again offers a chance to finally say what he left unspoken. Preparing for his first omiai, Wataru checks his appearance with the same care he brings to a courtroom, but none of his professional experience can settle his racing heart. He tries to treat the meeting like a familiar legal negotiation, reminding himself that even rejection would let him close a painful chapter. Still, facing Mariko feels more daunting than defending his first real case: there will be no appeal if things go wrong. With nervous anticipation and a fragile sense of hope, he steps toward the door, ready to leave old regrets behind and discover whether this second chance could lead to a brighter future.
