In Meteor World Actor, humanity shares the world with races whose natural gifts far exceed its own. Elves are intelligent, long-lived, and attuned to the wind; Wips command flame; and Segitts possess extraordinary muscular strength. Yet humans have found a place to thrive in the Seventh Republic, a racially diverse technopolis where they remain the dominant population. In a world full of strange and terrifying places, this is one corner where humans can feel secure—thanks, in no small part, to strength in numbers. Alone, an ordinary human would stand little chance against a member of almost any other race. Being a Keeper or wielding powerful Class A police technology might even the odds, but neither guarantees that power stays in the right hands. Equipment can be stolen, and not every Keeper serves justice. To maintain order, the Republic relies on strict border checks and pervasive, draconian surveillance. Cameras feed a computerized network that carries information to the National Police Agency, while officers on the streets enforce its authority. Sometimes, however, the grip of justice becomes too tight. Within the NPA, the 13th Division stands apart: the Sideliners, a group notorious for defying orders, breaking regulations, and refusing overtime. They manage to make themselves useless to practically everyone—especially their superiors—with one important exception: the people who need their help.
