Description

In Collapse Of A Certain Ranger, protecting peace on Earth is more than the premise of a children’s television show—it is the mission of the narrator’s organization, the Counter Threat Unit, or CTU. Formed in response to a sudden wave of monstrous attacks, the unit exists to defend people against threats that once shattered everyday life. More than ten years ago, monsters and other monstrosities appeared without warning and began attacking people. The hastily assembled CTU joined military and police forces in fighting back, ultimately wiping out both the creatures and their organization. With the threat eliminated, peace returned to the city. The CTU was never disbanded and continues to maintain a daily watch. Yet after a long stretch with almost no incidents, its budget has been cut and its activities scaled back. For an organization built to confront extraordinary danger, this quiet routine raises an uneasy question: has everyone begun to take peace for granted?
