Description

Burrows follows Grey, a jaded possum who leaves his former life in 1920s New Orleans behind, only to be plunged into an unending nightmare by an enigmatic bartender named Virgil. Adrift in a churning sea of souls, Grey discovers that escaping his past is far more complicated than simply leaving home. Within this unsettling world, he encounters a group of men who are somehow connected to his former home—a plantation with a dark history of its own. Their connection offers Grey something to grasp amid the chaos, but the men are taken away almost as quickly as he finds them. Left alone once more, he has only one option: dig a little deeper. With its nightmarish atmosphere and a mystery rooted in Grey’s past, Burrows explores disturbing subject matter, including suicide, self-harm, sexual assault, violent imagery, depression, and other mental illnesses. Grey’s search unfolds against this bleak backdrop, with the plantation’s troubled history at the heart of the connections he uncovers.
