Description

In Zero Sum, an ordinary testing department manager receives an unexpected promotion: leadership of Project Icarus. His assignment is to finish and launch “Phoenix,” an algorithm that studies user behavior and raises taxi fares when customers are most vulnerable. The better it understands the people using it, the more money it can extract from them. What looks like a career breakthrough soon reveals a darker reality. The protagonist’s new position draws him into a world where financial success comes at the expense of moral responsibility. Every decision shapes both the future of the project and his own, making the promotion far more consequential than he ever expected. But the truth about Project Icarus cannot remain concealed forever. Someone already knows too much, someone is watching, and someone is waiting for a mistake. As that threat looms over his work, one wrong move could take him past the point of no return.
