Description

In Taking Pictures Secretly, life after university has fallen short of the protagonist’s expectations. Unable to find a job after graduating, they settle into part-time work and a monotonous routine with little to look forward to. A casual interest in landscape photography offers a small escape, and they begin sharing their pictures on social media. That quiet pastime takes an unexpected turn when a direct message arrives with an unsettling proposition: take lewd photographs of a woman on the sender’s behalf. The stranger suggests that the protagonist might enjoy fulfilling the request just as much as—or even more than—the person making it. The target is Michiru, a 28-year-old woman who runs an esthetic salon. Convinced that nothing good can come from accepting a voyeuristic photography request, the protagonist initially intends to ignore the message. Yet curiosity draws them away from their uneventful routine. Before they know it, they are heading into the city with their smartphone in hand, pulled toward an invitation they had meant to leave unanswered.
